NUTRITION

Q&A: Why might crops not be used to feed local families?

Many farmers choose to sell their crops to multinational corporations who pay better prices than local families. When farmers grow for export, crops often lack the variety needed to meet people's nutritional needs. Also, some export crops, like tobacco and coffee, can't be eaten.
