About PopNet

PopNet is a resource for population information. With PopNet, you can search the most comprehensive directory of population-related websites available — by organization, by region or country, or by topic within countries.

PopNet presents information on population topics such as demographic statistics, economics, education, environment, gender, policy and reproductive health. Its resources include websites produced by government and international organizations, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), university centers, and associations and listservs.

PopNet is produced and maintained by the Population Reference Bureau with funding assistance from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) under the MEASURE Communication project. MEASURE Communication fosters better dissemination and use of data and information to support improved population, health, and nutrition policies. The project is implemented by the Population Reference Bureau, in collaboration with the Academy for Educational Development. Using audience-centered approaches, MEASURE Communication:

  • assesses information needs for policy and program improvement;
  • produces global and country-specific materials (in print, video, and electronic formats) to communicate policy-relevant survey, research, and evaluation findings;
  • supports low-cost print and broadcast media activities and networks to raise awareness of the programmatic implications of research and accelerate policy actions; and
  • builds the capacity of institutions and individuals to develop and implement results-oriented policy communication activities.

MEASURE Communication helps ensure that data collection, analysis, research, and dissemination activities involve and inform the ultimate users. Key audiences include policymakers and program managers in developing country governments, nongovernmental organizations and international agencies, as well as educators and the media.

Founded in 1929, the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) is the leader in providing timely and objective information on U.S. and international population trends and their implications. PRB informs policymakers, educators, the media, and concerned citizens working in the public interest around the world through a broad range of activities, including publications, information services, seminars and workshops, and technical support. Our efforts are supported by government contracts, foundation grants, individual and corporate contributions, and the sale of our publications. PRB is governed by a Board of Trustees representing diverse community and professional interests.
