About MEASURE

The MEASURE Communication project fosters better dissemination and use of data and information to support improved population, health, and nutrition policies in developing countries. It is implemented by the Population Reference Bureau, in collaboration with the Academy for Educational Development, through a cooperative agreement with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

MEASURE Communication helps ensure that data collection, analysis, and dissemination activities involve and inform the ultimate users. Key audiences include policymakers and program managers in developing-country governments, nongovernmental organizations and international agencies, as well as educators and the media.

Using audience-centered approaches, MEASURE Communication:

  • Assesses information needs for policy and program development
  • Produces global and country-specific materials (in print, video, and electronic formats) to communicate policy-relevant survey, research, and evaluation findings
  • Supports low-cost print and broadcast media activities and networks to raise awareness of the programmatic implications of research and accelerate policy actions
  • Builds the capacity of institutions and individuals to develop and implement results-oriented, policy communication activities.

MEASURE Communication has been active in the following countries and regions:

  • Sub-Saharan Africa: Center for Applied Research on Population and Development (CERPOD), Kenya, Madagascar, Tanzania
  • Middle East: Jordan
  • Europe and Eurasia: Europe, Russia
  • Asia/Pacific: Cambodia, India
  • Latin America: Brazil, Jamaica

The MEASURE Program includes five projects that complement each other with the ultimate goal of improving policies and programs. Project staff work with counterparts in developing countries to plan and implement cost-effective strategies to meet information needs. The MEASURE implementing agencies provide a full range of technical services in data collection, analysis, and dissemination for use in decisionmaking.
